The Senior Transit Officer is the first supervisory rank within Trade & Transit field enforcement. Senior Transit Officers oversee the work of Transit Officers, review questionable manifests or travel records, investigate suspicious shipments, and take control when a routine inspection develops into a more serious enforcement matter. They remain active field personnel, but carry enough authority to make immediate operational decisions without waiting for highter command during ordinary transit and cargo incidents.
A Senior Transit Officer exercises authority over routine and escalated Trade & Transit enforcement involving cargo, vessels, shipping records, transit permissions, inspection activity, and suspected trade-law violations.
They may take operational control of inspections being conducted by lower-ranking Transit Officers and are often the first rank expected to determine whether an irregularity is a simple compliance problem, a seizure matter, or something requiring higher-level. Investigation.
Senior Transit Officers can investigate shipments and conduct cargo seizures, but they do not independently command large Trade & Transit operations or establish broader enforcement policy. Major seizures, politically sensitive cargo, or cases requiring substantial tactical coordination are normally escalate to a Route Lieutenant or higher authority.
Senior Transit Officers commonly supervise small inspection teams or temporarily direct multiple Transit Officers during cargo stops, vessel searches, checkpoint operations, or seizure actions.
Their authority is practical and immediate rather than strategic: They control the field problem in front of them, while broader scheduling, deployment, and tactical coordination belongs to higher ranks.
Senior Transit Officers work closely with Transit Officers and Route Lieutenants, often serving as the link between routine checkpoint personnel and higher operational command.
They may coordinate with Civic Security when inspections create public disturbances or passenger-management problems, Reclamation when seized cargo is tied to theft, smuggling, fugitives, or recoverable Guild property, and Special Systems when restricted or anomalous technology is discovered.
When a shipment presents a serious tactical threat rather than merely a trade violation, the Senior Transit Officer's role shifts toward securing the scene and bringing in the Guild arm with the appropriate jurisdiction.
